Pelle Carlberg - I Love You, You Imbecile
If you feel like taking an indie pop break after the intensity of Mogwai then Pelle Carlberg may be your man. Even before listening to Carlberg the omens looked decidedly good because he is signed to Labrador, probably the most consistently wonderful label on the planet. Carlberg used to be with a band called Edson but he already has 2 solo albums to his name, the latest of which ‘In A Nutshell’ has just been released. Expect plenty of joyous indie pop mixed with more than the odd trace of twee. Right now Labrador are giving ‘I Love You, You Imbecile’ away for free and wouldn’t you know it, it is one of the best things you’ll hear this year. Carlberg mixes it up with an angelic female vocalist amid a backdrop of jangling guitars and an off the cuff shuffle. KD
