God Help The Girl - Come Monday Night
Stuart Murdoch’s God Help The Girl project is almost upon us (this day next week in fact). It’s what he has been doing with his time away from Belle & Sebastian and will feature a series of girl singers plucked from the world via newspaper ads. The most prominent to emerge from that process is Limerick’s Catherine Ireton who sings on the album’s promo ‘Come Monday Night’ (she was previously in an Irish band called Elephants, nope me neither). As you’d expect the song expresses a lush palette, retro styling and vocals that are just as pretty as the girl singing them. Beautiful stuff and a reminder of a leaner/fitter/understated B&S (CO in other words), let’s hope the others are sitting up and taking heed. KD
