Back in ’08 Stars and Sons scored a top 10 in our best songs of the year. While such events normally kick starts a full on year of hedonistic celebration with the subsequent loss of all artistic merit down a succession of filthy toilet bowls it seems to have propelled the Brighton band to even greater heights. And delighted we are too because it leaves us with songs like the popsicle wind tunnel that is ‘Untested, Untried’. Furnished with all manner of pleasant musical devices it nonetheless swings from an axis laden with rich vocal harmonies. The production is slick but not sickly and the propulsion might just snag those not normally accustomed to Simon Cowell free enterprises. KD
