Midnight Movies - Souvenirs
What happened to the Bravery? Who cares, here is Midnight Movies. From L.A. and already on their second album Midnight Movies evoke the same retro electro territory as the New York boys but indications are that they also have other tricks up their sleeves. ‘Souvenirs’ opens ‘Lion The Girl’ with frenetic glee, Gena Oliver’s turns the pages as a whirlwind of sound backs up her frothy dispatches. ‘Lion The Girl’ is a spirited album having being recorded in the same Seattle studio where Kurt Cobain made his last recording. Good to see a female drummer piling on the pressure too, Sandra Vu’s beats add a focused vigour to proceedings that already have a judged swagger. KD
